What is an SMS QR Code?

An SMS QR code opens the phone’s default texting app with the recipient number and message body prefilled, so users can send in a tap. It’s perfect for quick actions like bookings, support, confirmations, and promo responses.

How SMS QR Codes work

QRUpp encodes a standard sms: link with your phone number and message text. When scanned, the device launches the SMS app (Messages, Android Messages, etc.) with those fields ready to send.

Create an SMS QR Code in QRUpp

  1. Either click Generate QR codes from our homepage, or (if you have an account) log in and click QR codes in the left‑hand menu, then Create QR.
  2. Select SMS at the top of the page.
  3. Enter a meaningful name for your QR code.
  4. Enter the phone number and the message to be sent.
  5. Choose the style, colours, frame, foreground/background images, and optional logo.
  6. The preview updates in real time as you adjust settings.
  7. Click Generate to save your QR code.
  8. Download as SVG, PNG, JPG, or WEBP, or print to hard copy or PDF.

No account required.

Best uses

  • Bookings & reservations: quick SMS requests with key details prefilled.
  • Customer support: fast triage message to your help number.
  • Promotions & opt-ins: users text a keyword to participate.
  • Event operations: attendees send a code word for assistance.
  • Click-to-text sales: low‑friction enquiries from posters and flyers.

Tips for higher response rates

  • Keep the message short and include clear prompts (e.g., “Name + preferred time”).
  • If you receive international texts, include the country code (e.g., +44…).
  • Tell users when you monitor replies (e.g., business hours).
  • Test on iOS and Android to confirm the SMS app opens as intended.
