What is an App Store QR Code?

An App Store QR code routes people directly to your app’s page on the right store based on their device—Apple App Store for iOS and Google Play for Android. On desktop, you can send users to a landing page.

Supported apps include: AliExpress, TikTok, Reddit, X, YouTube, Instagram, WhatsApp, Snapchat, Facebook Messenger, Facebook, Telegram, Spotify, Apple Music, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Twitch, Netflix, Google Sheets, Google Docs, Google Slides, Google Maps, Airbnb, TripAdvisor, Amazon, StockX, Booking.com.

How App Store QR Codes work

QRUpp creates a smart short link that detects the user’s platform on scan. iOS devices are sent to the App Store, Android devices to Google Play, and desktop users to your chosen fallback URL. You get link-level analytics and can update destinations later if needed.

Create an App Store QR Code in QRUpp

  1. Log in to your account and click Links in the left-hand menu, then Create Link.
  2. Click on the App linking section to expand.
  3. Hover over the type of app you wish to link to and read the hint showing the correct URL format.
  4. Enter the URL of your target app in the Destination URL field.
  5. Select the domain name that you wish to use for your shortened link*.
  6. Click Create to save your Link.
  7. Then click the at the top right and select Create QR.
  8. You can now customise and create your QR code following the same steps as the static URL QR code.

* Short links enable device detection, analytics, and updates without reprinting.

Best uses

  • Posters, flyers & OOH: drive installs directly from campaigns.
  • Retail & venues: prompt downloads at POS and entrance areas.
  • Events: encourage app installs for schedules or ticketing.
  • Packaging & inserts: companion apps and loyalty programmes.
  • Product pages: give mobile users a one-tap path to install.

Tips for higher install rates

  • Use clear calls to action (e.g., “Get the app”, “Download on iOS & Android”).
  • Place codes at eye level and near decision points (POS, exits, check-in desks).
  • Include a short line about benefits (“Track orders, save favourites, earn rewards”).
  • Test on iOS and Android; set an attractive desktop fallback.
