Frequently asked questions

Find answers to common questions about creating QR codes, choosing between static and dynamic, customising designs, tracking scans, and getting the best results from QRUpp.

Whether you’re just getting started or scaling campaigns, everything you need is here.

Getting Started

QRUpp is a QR code generator that helps you create static QR codes, dynamic QR codes, and AI QR codes for print and digital use. You can generate QR codes for websites, WiFi, contact details, events, payments, app downloads, and more – all from one platform.

You can create static QR codes without an account. An account is required for dynamic QR codes, AI QR codes, analytics, editable destinations, custom domains, and other advanced features.

A static QR code points to fixed data that cannot be changed after it is created. A dynamic QR code uses a short link, which means you can edit the destination later, track scans, and use features like scheduling, targeting, and password protection without reprinting the code.

If you need flexibility after printing, a dynamic QR code is usually the better choice.

QRUpp supports a wide range of QR code types, including URL, Dynamic, WiFi, Email, Phone, SMS, Event, Location, App Store, vCard, WhatsApp, PayPal, EPC Payment, Crypto, and AI QR codes.

You can explore the full range on the QR Code Types page.

Yes – static QR code generation is free. Paid plans unlock advanced tools such as dynamic QR codes, analytics, custom domains, and AI QR codes. You can compare options on our Pricing page.

Design & Features

Yes. You can customise your QR code with colours, frames, and logo placement to match your brand. QRUpp also provides live previews, so you can see how your design looks before you download it.

Yes – branded QR codes are supported. You can add your logo and use custom brand colours, but it is important to keep strong contrast between the code and the background so the QR code remains easy to scan.

An AI QR code combines functional QR data with AI-generated artwork to create a design that is both visually distinctive and fully scannable. This makes AI QR codes useful for campaigns, packaging, posters, social content, and branded experiences where appearance matters as much as function.

You can learn more on our AI QR Code page.

QRUpp supports downloads in SVG, PNG, JPG, and WEBP.

  • SVG is best for crisp print at any size.
  • PNG is ideal for general digital use.
  • JPG can be useful where lightweight image files are needed.
  • WEBP is a strong choice for modern web use.

Static QR codes do not expire. Dynamic QR codes and AI QR codes remain active while the associated link and account stay in good standing.

Analytics, Editing & Scale

Yes – but only with a dynamic QR code. Dynamic QR codes let you change the destination URL after printing, which is ideal for packaging, posters, menus, marketing campaigns, and any other long-term use case.

Static QR codes cannot be edited once created.

To track scans, use a dynamic QR code. QRUpp analytics can show useful scan data such as time, device type, and approximate location, helping you understand how your QR codes are performing.

No. QRUpp QR codes do not have scan limits. Your plan controls how many QR codes, links, or AI QR codes you can create, but not how many times they can be scanned.

This makes QRUpp suitable for everything from small print runs to large-scale campaigns.

Yes. QRUpp supports custom domains for dynamic short links, so you can use branded URLs such as go.example.com instead of a generic short link. This can improve trust, consistency, and click-through rates.

Yes. QRUpp supports bulk creation for higher-volume workflows, and for more advanced automation you can use the API to create and manage QR codes programmatically.

Yes – QRUpp provides an API for programmatic QR code and short-link creation, updates, and analytics retrieval. This is useful for platforms, internal tools, campaigns at scale, and automated workflows.

Printing, Scanning & Support

QRUpp includes a built-in scannability indicator that checks your QR code design in real time. If your code may be difficult to scan, you will see a warning “Adjust your QR code settings or content.”

This helps you identify issues early, before downloading or printing, so you can avoid problems caused by low contrast, excessive styling, or complex layouts.

For best results, aim for a clear, high-contrast design with sufficient spacing around the code.

If your QR code is not scanning reliably, start by checking the scannability indicator in QRUpp. If a warning is shown, adjust your design or content based on the guidance provided.

Common fixes include:

  • Increase contrast (dark code on a light background)
  • Reduce heavy styling or complex patterns
  • Ensure there is enough quiet space around the code
  • Test at the actual printed size

Always test your QR code on multiple devices before publishing or printing to ensure consistent performance.

As a general rule, print a QR code at a minimum of around 25-35 mm on its shortest side for normal scanning distances. Larger sizes are better for posters, shop windows, packaging viewed at arm’s length, or codes that need to scan from farther away.

Always test the actual artwork before final print.

They can, if used badly. Branded QR codes usually scan well when you keep strong contrast, preserve the quiet zone, and avoid covering important data areas. Adding a logo or custom colours is fine, but the QR code still needs to remain easy for a phone camera to read.
